Package from the past

Just this week Just this week I received an email from the bankrupt Ecuador post office that i have 2 packages waiting in Guayaquil or me to pick up. This is strange because i do not remember having any packages that i am waiting for. So we arranged a day trip to Guayaquil, we left and made our way to the address provided, turns out to be the old main post office. Went inside had to line up to be served, there were 5 people in front of us, normally i would say that is a small line. After waiting an hour /15 minutes and watching the painful process that the people in front of me, i am not surprised that the post office went belly up. I could see about 200 packages and between the to ladies it was like watching a slap stick comedy. It is my turn, i was asked where i bought the items, i said i do not know, i was told that will make it harder to find. I gave them the reference number, so both of them go to the opposite ends of the racks looking for my packages. They found the packages, both of the were in good condition, when i looked at the dates i found that the big package was something i ordered 5 years ago it has been in the post office since 2016, the second package has been in the post office since 2018. Well i have them now, what a way to run a post office, put it down to bad management.

Away from the coast for a few days

Since living here we have encountered many new and different animals and insects, so i just thought i would compile a short video of the interactions i remembered to take a photo of . There are some good images and not so good, it has been interesting to look back.

As we move through the winter, we encounter higher than felt in past years prolonged higher humidity that we would not expect in the winter months. Is this a sign of climate change, we think so, we now must consider planning for the summer and the posibility of prolonged higher tempriures and the need for cooling centers.

As can be seen from the video, one of the big attractions for tourists is barley functioning due to the restrictions. this did not seam to be the same for traffic, the surface roads were still very busy. the big wheel named the pearl was closed, we still enjoyed our time on the Malicon.

Pandemic day

a year agomtoday the WHO anounced thatnthe covid virus is officialy a pandemic. i have inclyded some images of that day to show where i was and what inwas doing. this last week has been very bad for the amount of rain we have had almost a whole week of rain. i have also included some images of the rain at my house. also this week we have seen that millions of doses of the covid vaccene have arrived and are being distributed to the cantons of Ecuador.

This week, prison riots

This week prison riots in three major cities, the riots were coordinated to happen at the same time. The authorities were quick to respond, evennso at this time there were 75 people lost their lives. not sure what prompted the riots.

Rain in summer adds to the life cycle

with the rain this week came a spert of growth in the garden and the skies. in the skies we were greated with the calls of a pair of falcons on an antena tower servaying the area for their kills. in the garden, strawberies radish onioun chillies peppers and more are breaking out and showing themselves to the world, saying come and eat me. the aromatics in the garden are working overtime pushing out their familular smels to the world.

New store in Salinas, just like Aldi

Here in Salinas there is a new store, this store opened just 2 months ago in the midest of the pandemic. the store is based on the euorpean store Aldi. no frills shelves are stocked with the goods in the boxes that the came in. the place when we went there had only two staff, it was very clean and air conditioned. the staff were very helpful which is a first for the coast, the prices were competitive. i have a couple of photos of the place and a link to the location with waze.
